If you’re ready to move beyond method feeder fishing and start targeting bigger carp, this introduction to specimen carp fishing day will help you build the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to fish more effectively.

Specimen carp fishing involves a more considered approach. You’ll learn how to find the fish, choose the right areas, use stronger and more suitable tackle, tying reliable rigs and presenting your bait effectively. We’ll cover the tactics used to target larger carp, while keeping everything practical, straightforward and suited to your experience.

I offer friendly, practical one-to-one tuition at suitable fishing venues across West Sussex. Every session is tailored to your current ability and the areas you would most like to improve.

What You’ll Learn

During your session, we can cover:

• Choosing suitable rods, reels, main line, and terminal tackle

• Beefing up your tackle for targeting larger carp safely

• Setting up reliable and effective carp rigs

• Understanding lead systems, leaders and safe rig mechanics

• Choosing the right hook, hooklink and hookbait

• Boilie fishing and selecting suitable boilies

• Using PVA bags and mesh sticks

• Preparing and presenting particles, pellets and other free offerings

• Using bait boats where permitted and appropriate

• Spodding and Spombing to build an accurate baited area

• Catapulting bait accurately at shorter and medium ranges

• Finding the fish through observation and watercraft

• Reading the lake, weather and conditions

• Using a depth finder and marker float to understand the lakebed

• Identifying features such as bars, plateaux, margins, weed and silt

• Choosing productive areas and deciding where to place your rigs

• Casting accurately and consistently

• Fishing at different ranges and improving your accuracy

• Balancing bait, rigs and feeding strategies

• Adapting your approach when the fish are not responding

• Playing, landing and caring for larger carp safely

Everything will be explained clearly and demonstrated on the bank. You’ll learn not only how to use the equipment, but also why each decision matters and how to apply the tactics during your own fishing.

You don’t need to be an experienced carp angler. The session will be relaxed, practical and tailored to your current level, helping you become more confident and independent when targeting specimen carp.

Session Options

Day Session — £200

10:00am–4:00pm

Six hours of friendly, practical one-to-one tuition covering the key principles of specimen carp fishing. We’ll focus on the areas most relevant to your experience and goals.

Full-Day Session — £250

8:00am–5:00pm

A complete day on the bank with more time to develop your watercraft, practise casting and baiting techniques, explore the lakebed and adapt your approach as the conditions and behaviour of the fish change throughout the day.

24-Hour Session — £350

Arrive at 10:00am and fish through until 10:00am the following day

A full 24-hour tuition session offering the complete specimen carp fishing experience. You’ll have the opportunity to learn how to approach the lake during daylight, prepare for the night, monitor your rods and adapt your tactics as the conditions change.

Night fishing is one of the most exciting parts of specimen carp fishing. The atmosphere is completely different once darkness falls, and many larger carp become more confident and move into areas they may avoid during the day. A 24-hour session gives you the chance to experience this for yourself while receiving guidance and support.

For this session, you’ll need to bring your own bivvy, bedchair, sleeping bag and any other equipment required for staying overnight on the bank. You’ll also need suitable clothing, food, drinks, lighting and personal camping equipment. A full equipment list can be discussed before booking. Equipment may be available to hire or borrow if arranged in advance.

• Advice you can continue using during your own fishing

A suitable venue will be agreed before your session. Any separate fishery day-ticket charges will be clearly explained before you book. All tactics and equipment will be used in accordance with the rules of the venue.
